1.2 Submittance

A. Samples

A.Samples of glazing and aluminium finish as directed by Architect.

B.  ………………… copies of shop drawings for Architect’s approval prior to starting fabrication

D.  Compatibility statement that the glazing materials are compatible with the extruded aluminium skylight system.

1.3 Warranty

A. Structure – The skylight(s)shall be warranted for a period of one year after completion of the skylight against leakage, defective design, defective materials and construction. This warranty is limited to replacement or repair of defect and does not include consequential damage. (Extended manufacturers warranty and maintenance is optional for Vikon Valiant Skylite plus system).

B.  Glazing – The glazing material shall be warranted against defective materials, colour variation, scratching* and defect in manufacture, all in Accordance with the glazing material manufacturer’s standard warranties.

2.  The Skylight System

2.1 Qualifications

A. The skylight shall be (Megadome®Skylite/Megavault®Skylite/Sacevault®Skylite/Pyramid Spaceglaze®/Domelite®) as manufactured by Vikon Valiant Skylite (Pty) Ltd, PO Box 1925 Randburg 2125. Tel: (OIl) 791 7661 Fax: (OIl) 791 7667, having the geometry and The member shapes, sizes and wall thickness shown on the Architectural drawings and as Thereafter described.

2.2 Design

A. The skylight shall be designed with certain features which will be strictly adhered to. The skylight shall be made of self supported extruded aluminium tubular sections, Containing structural and glazing functional features in a single member.

A.The System shall include the following design features:

-     Internal, non slip neoprene weather seals snapped into purpose designed ‘Grab’. (fixing of the rubber seal with glue to the aluminium section SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED).

-     Integral drainage channels shall drain any leakage water to the outside, in the event of weather seal failure.

-     Integral secondary condensation gutters.

-     Controlled to compression capping using stainless steel bolts, fixed into Purpose designed non slip screw grabs.

-     Fastening or drilling through the glazing SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED.

B.  The system shall provide for expansion and contraction within the system components caused by a cycling temperature range of 40°C without causing any detrimental effects to the systems or components.

C.  The skylight system shall be designed in accordance with the following requirements:

2.3 Fabrication and Materials

A. The skylight shall be factory fitted and assembled, piece marked and delivered knocked down for final assembly at the job site.

B.  Aluminium tubular sections shall have a minimum thickness of 3mm and for span over 4m, a maximum thickness of 4mm. Aluminium shall be alloy 6063TF.

C.  Aluminium finish shall be (mill finish/anodised/powder coated/wet process operating).

D.  Glazing material shall be (Type and colour, single/double glazing).

E.  Gasket – All gasketing shall be extruded EPDM. At no point shall the glazing come in contact with the skylight frame or fasteners.

F.  Fasteners – Exterior fasteners shall be stainless steel, others shall be stainless steel or cadmium plated.

3.  Execution

A. Inspection

A.The skylight manufacturers shall inspect the roof opening to see that it is properly prepared to receive the skylight system and dimensionally agrees with the approved shop drawings. In the event of error, the skylight manufacturers shall so notify the main contractor. No work shall proceed until all errors and deviations are corrected.

B.  Installation

B.The skylight shall be erected and glazed strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

C.  Aluminium components that come into contact with dissimilar metals, shall receive a protective coatings or isolator to prevent electrolysis.
